Volunteer Opportunities

The Eau Claire County UW Extension Office in Altoona, Wisconsin is looking for area individuals to volunteer their time to help our organization meet it’s missions.  Information on specific volunteer opportunies are below.

Position Title: Volunteers in Horticulture

Major responsibilities: Aid University of Wisconsin-Extension staff by helping people in the community better understand horticulture and their environment. Assist the general public with horticulture related questions at the Ask-A-Master Gardener booth at the Saturday Downtown Farmer’s Market or by at the Eau Claire County UW Extension office. Other volunteer projects include assisting with the summer youth gardens and maintaining the Eau Claire Master Gardener Volunteer Demonstration gardens.

Impact of the assignment: Extend UW Extension’s outreach to community residents in educating people about horticulture.

Qualifications: Take the Level 1 Master Gardener Volunteer training (36 hours). Maintain 24 hours of volunteer service and 10 hours of continuing education per year.

Benefits to Volunteer: Have access to the latest information about horticulture from the UW Extension Specialists located around the state. Learn from other local gardeners. Belong to the Eau Claire Area Master Gardener Association and WI Master Gardener Association.

Supervisor: Erin LaFaive

Time commitment: at least 24 hours per year. Most volunteer activities take place between 8AM-9PM weekends and weekdays.

Work location: various locations such as youth gardens, Eau Claire County Extension office, schools, and farmer’s market.
