Digital Literacy Training Calendar

Designing a Sustainable Landscape with Technology Workshop
The Chippewa County UW-Extension Office in conjunction with the Building Community Capacity through Broadband (BCCB) initiative, Bloomer Chamber of Commerce, and Bloomer Telephone Company, will host “Designing a Sustainable Landscape with Technology” workshop May 16 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the Bloomer Area Aquatic and Recreation Center, 1731 17th Avenue, Bloomer, WI . 

Participants will learn basic sustainable landscape design concepts to help them design a sustainable, visually pleasing landscape.  Through support from the BCCB initiative, participants will also use electronic resources such as iPads and laptops to help with design and plant selection.

Speakers at the workshop include Jerry Clark, UW-Extension Crops and Soils Educator for Chippewa and Eau Claire Counties and Jill Hietpas, UW-Extension Community Development and Broadband Educator.

CHIPPEWA FALLS COURT HOUSE – Basic Computer Skills

The University of Wisconsin Extension Office will be offering a FREE computer training course exclusively for CSP Community Employment Program participants.  You will:

  • Identify the basic parts of a computer and what they do
  • Become familiar with the keyboard and its functions
  • Learn how to “log on” to the computer
  • Click and move the mouse to open and close files
  • Be able to cut, copy, and past words and sentences

Basic Computer Skills for the Job Hunter

A series of courses offered by UW-Extension and UW-Stout Americorp/Vista “Bridging the Digital Divide” for the beginning computer user that needs basic skills to create a resume or cover letter, search for jobs, apply for jobs online, or advance their computer aptitude for job growth. Each session is two hours long and will provide hands on experience and exercises to increase computer literacy. 

Basic Computer Skills Training Series: 1:00-3:00 PM
May 8th: Basic Internet
May 15th and May 22nd: Email/Gmail
May 29th: Advanced Internet
June 5th: LinkedIn

MENOMONIE PUBLIC LIBRARY

A series of advanced Computer Courses; attendees should have the basic computer knowledge and skills to access and use the internet. Sessions run from 9:30-11:30. 

May 15th: Internet Extended: A continuation of the Internet Basics course offered in February, participants will learn how to use the internet for research purposes, including using Boolean search, Wikipedia, and more.

May 22: Email Extended: A continuation of the Email Basics course offered in February, participants will learn how to use mailing lists, attach files, organize emails, and more.

May 29: Taste of Tech: During this session, a variety of technology will be demonstrated, including iPads, iPods, eReaders, and laptops. Participants will have the opportunity to experience each device hands-on. There will also be time to ask questions about your personal mobile devices, including your cell phone! No prior experience needed!

June 5: Skype: Participants will learn how to utilize Skype to safely chat face-to-face with family and friends over the internet. An email address and basic mouse and keyboard skills are required.

Register for a half-hour one-on-one session by calling the Senior Center at 715-720-1666. 

SPRING COMPUTER SERIES
Fridays, 10:30 to Noon

Each session includes a demonstration with hands-on activities. Absolutely NO experience is
necessary. Space is limited so call the Senior Center to register at 715-720-1666.
 
April 27h:  Internet 101: Safety! Protect yourself and your computer when you are online
May 4th:  Internet 101: Review and refresh, time to ask and practice

Get your questions answered! Laptops and iPads available, or you can bring your own laptop or digital device and join the UW-Extension Broadband Educator in an open lab environment.
