EcoTeams
What is an EcoTeam?
EcoTeams are designed to help people make voluntary changes in the way they interact with the environment. If you’re like many people, you have a vague idea of what you should be doing to reduce your environmental footprint, but you don’t know where to begin. The EcoTeam resources will assist you in translating your desire to do the right thing into a program of environmental action that will make a difference.
How do EcoTeams Work?
Groups of friends, neighbors, co-workers, local government officials, students, and members of civic and non-profit organizations come together to offer support, motivation and encouragement to each other as they follow a workbook to help them become better stewards of the earth. Each of you will choose the workbook activities you wish to do and track your progress along the way. There are three EcoTeam programs, each with its own book, focus and time frame.
The workbooks for these programs were created by the Empowerment Institute and authored by David Gershon, one of the world’s leading authorities on behavior change.
- Green Living Handbook: A 6 Step Program to Create an Environmentally Sustainable Lifestyle;
- Low Carbon Diet: A 30 Day Program to Lose 5000 Pounds
- Journey for the Planet: A Kid’s Five Week Adventure to Create an Earth-Friendly Life.
All of the books contain step-by-step guides, so the process is easy. The EcoTeam program is offered through Eau Claire County Extension, in partnership with JONAH (Joining Our Neighbors, Advancing Hope) and the Clear Vision Sustainability Task Force.
